Sanjay Dutt-Manyata marriage Illegal

Marriage registration of Sanjay Dutt and Manyata has been kept on hold after senior administrative officer of Margao district suspended the residence certificate given to Manyata. Sanjay Dutts married Manyata at a private ceremony in Goa recently.

Earlier, an inquiry had been ordered into the validity of the residence certificate Manyata submitted for registration of the marriage. The marriage was registered on Feb7,2008 between Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt and his girlfriend Manyata. However it came to light that Manyata had managed to get a residence certificate without living in the state.

South Goa collector G P Naik said on Thursday that the certificate did not have the signature of the senior official issuing it. Instead of the signature of a mamlatdar (a senior administrative official), the certificate bears the signature of a talati, who is a subordinate officer, said the collector.

Manyata obtained the certificate from the office of a talati in south Goa saying she has been a resident in Salcete taluka for six months. The talati has been suspended after the collector asked the mamlatdar to conduct an inquiry. The district administration also suspects whether the affidavit filed by the owner of the house saying Manyata has been living there for six months is genuine.

Congress Rajya Sabha MP from Goa, Shantaram Naik, too has joined the issue. He said the state government should enact a legislation to regulate resident certificates to protect the interest of Goans.
