Movie Housefull Review

Being the first release after the 2 month dry spell at movie theatres post IPL, audiences were clearly awaiting a picture. While in totality it does fall short of being the big great summer entertainer that it is been claiming to be, it though manages to create a lot of laughs for you. However, finally it settles down in recognizable territory.

Sajid, who also wrote the script, strains too strong to add humour to every scence. He resorts to the familiar gay and Gujarati gags. The two things you expect from Housefull are non-stop laughter and non-stop entertainment. As promotors had already announced this fact previously.

To give Sajid due credit, he has created many rip roaringly humorous situations that are well executed by his actors. Amongst the most hilarious sequences are most of the scenes featuring Akshay and Ritesh together sharing excellent chemistry.

It’s not merely an assemblage of funny sequences or a mere montage, but is backed by a stroy. The story is about pretenses, and how in the name of saving one’s face and reputation, lies lead to bigger lies, stemming from wanting to impress family members. Housefull narrates the story of Aarush (Akshay Kumar), the world’s unluckiest man. Being simple and helpless, he believes his bad luck can vanish if he finds true love in life. In the process he gets married to the rich mans daughter Jiah Khan. But there’s a twist in the tale. Then enters Sandy (Deepika Padukone), who falls in love with Aarush. To complicate the matter Sandy’s brother played by Arjun Rampal and Hetal’s father enter the plot. Hetal is played by Lara Dutta. How Aarush and his pal Bob (Riteish Deshmukh) come out of this confusion, forms the root of the film.

It is the out come of admirable group work. Akshay underplays his part fantastically. All those who felt that the actor tends to grow loud or wishes to be restricted will alter their opinion with this film. Riteish is brilliant as natural. He doesn’t give you an impression that he is acting. Though the story primarily revolves around Akshay, Riteish stands shoulder to shoulder with Akshay in this one. Arjun Rampal is fantastic. Deepika carries her part with amazing confidence and again she will be remembered for her performance in this one. Lara is a seasoned player when it comes to comedies and she’s too good at it once again. Her scenes with Riteish in particular and also with Boman are first-rate. Jiah also excell in her role.

Cast: Akshay Kumar, Arjun Rampal, Ritesh Deshmukh, Deepika Padukone, Lara Dutta, Jiah Khan
